WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST SHOOT

AAHH! Your first shoot!

Wow! Your child has been booked as a model for a company – how exciting! Amid all the excitement, you might find yourself wondering, “What actually happens on a shoot location?” or “What will be expected of me as a parent or model?” These are completely natural questions, and we’re here to help you feel prepared and at ease. Let’s dive into everything you can expect on the day of the shoot so you can arrive confident and ready!

The team is ready for you! Depending on the size of the company, there may be multiple teams shooting different models at once. Your child will have their own dedicated team (sometimes shared with other models). Here’s a breakdown of what typically happens:
1.) Hair & Makeup
You’ll likely be greeted by a hair and makeup artist first. They’ll create the perfect look for the shoot. Once that’s done, it’s time to get dressed.

2.) Styling
A stylist will usually provide the outfits for the shoot. You’ll see a rack with all the looks planned for the day, so you’ll know in advance what’s coming. As a parent, you may need to help your child get dressed. While not every outfit may be to your taste or your child’s, it’s important to remember that months of creativity and effort went into these designs. We like to say: “Behind every fashion piece, there’s a mind that puts hours of thoughts into it.”

3. The Photographer
The photographer will give instructions, though every photographer’s style is different—some are more detailed, others prefer to let things flow naturally. Encourage your child to experiment with different poses, expressions, and even a little movement. The more variety the photographer has to choose from, the better!

4. Outfit Changes
Once one outfit is complete, it’s on to the next. The number of outfits and the types of shots required (front, side, back) will depend on the client’s needs.

5. Wrap-Up
When all outfits have been shot, the shoot is officially “wrapped.” Be sure to capture some behind-the-scenes photos (if permitted), as it can take months—or even years—for the final images to appear on the company’s channels.

Woops, it is waiting time….
Shoots often involve waiting. While most teams try to minimize downtime, delays can happen. A few examples:
● Adjusting lighting or the set
● Last-minute outfit changes (steaming or prioritizing new arrivals)
● Missing team members
● Overlapping schedules with other models
To make waiting more manageable, bring snacks, drinks, and activities to keep your child entertained.

So… why is this?
One common question parents have is: “Why did they schedule us to arrive when the team is still eating?”
This can happen for a variety of reasons, often tied to delays in earlier shoots. Fashion shoots are demanding, with long days and high expectations, so breaks are essential for the team to recharge and perform at their best. This might mean breakfast or lunch overlaps with your arrival time. Rest assured, they aren’t trying to waste your time—these moments help ensure the shoot goes smoothly once it begins.
By understanding what to expect and staying prepared, your child’s first shoot will be an exciting and rewarding experience for everyone involved. Now you’re ready to enjoy the day and cheer your little model on!
